Honey is an amazing natural remedy that has been used for over 5,000 years all over the world. Bees collect nectar from various plants, and the type of plant from which the nectar is gathered affects the taste of honey.
If you do not already consume honey on a regular basis, here are seven reason to begin today:
1. Honey is a delicious and healthy sugar replacement.
Instead of using sugar in your tea and on your oatmeal, use honey. It is very sweet, and a little goes a long way. My husband and I make our own hot chocolate and sweeten it with honey.
2. Honey is excellent for your complexion.
Yes, what you eat is just as much of your skincare routine as what products you put on your skin. While sugar ages your skin, honey is your skin’s friend.
Honey can also be used on your skin topically, such as in a face mask.
3. Honey is a natural energizer.
Instead of drinking coffee or an energy drink during your mid-day slump, eat a teaspoon of honey.
4. Honey may help you manage your weight.
Substitute honey for white sugar to help your weight management goals. Sugar is full of empty calories and is addicting (you will keep eating more) while a teaspoon or two of honey can easily satisfy you.
5. Honey has antioxidant properties.
Do you need another reason to eat honey? It may help you keep away those nasty bugs going around.
6. Honey may help relieve coughs.
Some studies have shown that honey is as effective, if not more effective, than commercial cough syrups. (source)
7. Honey supports your circulatory system.
If your heart and brain health is important to you, eat honey! (source)
Honey is one of my favorite foods. Just a teaspoon or two satisfies and helps my health.
It’s important to make sure you are buying quality honey. Honey that is sold in the stores is often fake. It has been boiled and therefore has lost its nutritional benefits. Often sugar and/or high fructose corn syrup have been added to it.
Honey is often contaminated by pesticides sprayed on crops. Go here to purchase excellent honey and other high quality bee products that we use in our home exclusively.
