With the New Year ahead, you are more likely than not thinking of ways you can improve your health. While you may be thinking of improving your diet, exercising more, or drinking more water — it’s important to know that it’s vital to remove from the body the harmful toxins that do not belong there.
If you missed last week’s post about “5 Reasons You Need a Detox,” you can read it here.
This week, we will address five signs that you need a detox. There are many more signs than five, but we will focus on just five today.
1. You are often under the weather.
Toxins make you sick. When there are too many toxins in your body, your digestive system is not functioning properly, and guess how much of your immune system is in your gut? Over 60%! If you are sick and not recovering quickly, you need a detox.
2. You crave sweets and/or junk food.
Yes, I know this one from experience just a few years ago, I could not live without sweets. After I did my first detox, my sugar cravings significantly decreased. You see, when your colon is full of toxins, your body cannot absorb the nutrition from the food you are eating. Somehow your brain translates the need for nutrition as a craving for sugar.
3. You wake up tired.
Although you usually go to bed on time and get more than five or six hours of sleep, those toxins in your body are preventing you from getting a good night’s sleep. A good night’s rest has just as much to do with the quality of your sleep as the quantity of your sleep!
When my body was full of toxins, I would sleep up to ten hours and still feel tired in the morning. I was waking up multiple times during the night; however, after my first detox, which was only nine days, I would wake up maybe once during the night. It was such a blessing for me to rest better at night!
4. You have digestive issues.
No, it’s not pleasant to talk about digestive issues, but living with digestive issues is far less pleasant. Yes, you can change your diet, but what will you do with the accumulation of toxins in your diet? Plus, if you do not detox, you’ll still be craving those sweets, and it will be more difficult to change your diet.
5. You keep gaining weight.
An accumulation of toxins in your body is usually a sign of digestive issues. When the toxins in your body are not being flushed out, they contribute to weight gain. As a matter of fact, most Americans have anywhere between 5 and 25 pounds of waste in their bodies (source). Is it any wonder that you are gaining weight?
Just a side note, it’s dangerous to try to lose weight without detoxing because then your body becomes smaller, and the concentration of toxins grows. Yes, that means you may look smaller but be less healthy.
Which of these signs are you experiencing currently? Please comment below. I’d love to hear from you and will respond to your comments.
Happy New Year!
