Fall is such a glorious season! Apple trees are ready for harvest; pumpkins and other winter squash can be incorporated into meals for a lovely boost of nutrition.
Turning on the oven is a pleasure since it will help to heat up the home.
Humidity is usually lower, and the air conditioning isn’t running nonstop.
1. The various colors of fall bring such joy.
This is a time of year that is postcard perfect! I love seeing the reds, yellows, and oranges–sometimes all on one tree.
It’s the perfect time to spend outdoors, whether it’s doing yard working, enjoying a picnic, taking a hike in the woods, or reading on a blanket in the backyard.
2. The reprieve from heat and humidity is such a joy.
While I am thankful for heat and humidity because it’s a blessing for farmers and gardeners, living with constant humidity would be a challenge at the least.
3. Preparing for Thanksgiving is a joy of fall.
To me, Thanksgiving has the most amazing foods (probably because I like pumpkin so much). Whether we are hosting or joining someone else’s celebration, it’s a joy to cook and bake for Thanksgiving and to prepare the home for company.
4. Taking brisk walks outdoors is amazing.
During the summer, one has to time walks when it’s not too hot and humid; in the winter, there is less sunlight. During the fall, however, it’s possible to take a walk in the fresh air without bundling up significantly.
Sometimes when I am tired, I just head outside for a walk to feel invigorated and refreshed!
5. Reading is a joy in the fall.
When it’s dark outside much earlier, retiring earlier in the evening with a good book doesn’t seem as guilty of a pleasure–yet it is still a pleasure. Find a good book to read, make yourself a cup of my favorite herbal tea, and read during a break in the day or just before you retire at night.
6. Being in the kitchen is a joy in the fall.
While I enjoy being in the kitchen in the summer, I enjoy it much more in the fall. Something about fall says, “Bake and cook as many delicious foods as you can!”
Since pumpkins are in season, it’s a joy to cook and bake with them.
As I am typing this, there is bread baking in the bread machine, and the house smells amazing without any artificial air fresheners.
Go here to learn about toxic pantry ingredients to avoid as you bake and cook.
7. An earlier bedtime is a joy during the fall season.
Getting a little bit more sleep in the fall can help boost your immunity.
As a bonus, reading is an excellent way to wind down so that you can sleep better at night. It’s more challenging to fall asleep if you are not relaxed–unless you are completely exhausted.
Genesis 8:22
While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
