It was a privilege to read Remember My Royalty by Hannah E. Griggs from HannahEGriggs.com. This is such a wholesome book. It is the second one I have read by the author, and I have loved both books!

First, the author did an amazing job making the inside of the book appear as though it was an older book. The gorgeous decorations reminded me of some of the old books I’ve read. Second, each chapter begins with a stanza of a poem that goes with the chapter. This part alone must have taken hours and hours of work and certainly added another fascinating aspect to the book.

I loved that the story was about three siblings who immigrated from Scotland to Texas. As an immigrant myself, I thought the author did an outstanding job in bringing out the hopes and fears of every immigrant throughout the story.

Also, I loved the hymns, songs, and Bible verses throughout the book.

Furthermore, it was delightful to learn about some of the customs of the people in Scotland. Also, it was quite interesting to learn more about the battle of the Alamo, from the soldiers’ perspective and the civilians’ perspective.

Another aspect of the book which was a blessing to me was the simplicity of every day life back in the 1800s. No, life was not easy, but their lives were full of meaningful work such as cooking, cleaning, baking, sewing, knitting, and gardening.

I greatly appreciate the fact that Miss Griggs took the effort to incorporate as many real people into this book as possible. At the beginning of the book, there is a list of characters with an indication of who was a real person and who was a fictitious one.

I highly recommend this book and look forward to Hannah’s future books as well.
