Colossians 3:15

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

This week I am grateful for the following:

1. Warm clothing, specifically wool

Cold weather has arrived where we live, and it’s such a blessing to have warm clothing. I am wearing as much wool as possible every day to stay warm and cozy. It is a blessing to be able to stay warm without

2. Pen pals

It is a blessing to check the mail and see not just junk mail or bills but a letter from a few hundred or few thousand miles away! My pen pals are so kind to me, and it’s just as enjoyable to write to them as it is to receive their letters.

3. Audio books

I am thankful for audiobooks because often during the day my hands are busy, yet it is a blessing to listen to a book while working on projects around the home.

Here are a few of my favorite audiobooks:

Unbroken by Rebekah A. Morris

Difficulties arise at Triple Creek Ranch when Orlena, Norman Mavrich’s spoiled, pampered younger sister, comes to live with her brother and his wife. The move is much against Orlena’s wishes, and she doesn’t hesitate to let everyone know it. Time and again Mr. and Mrs. Mavrich are driven to their knees to find strength to face another day.

Join the young ranch boss, Norman Mavrich, his sweet wife, Jenelle, and the rest of the members of Triple Creek Ranch as they strive to be examples of Christ to the unbroken newcomer. [This is the first book of a delightful series.]

The Pocket Measure by Isabella Alden

Three young women are the central characters in this story. Callie and her husband are poor, but they are frugal, spending using God’s principles, and they reserve a tenth for God’s work. Eva’s husband makes more than double what Callie’s husband makes, but that doesn’t keep them from sinking beneath a load of debt. Even worse, she feels that her husband thinks it’s her fault – and she thinks it is, too. She’s an inexperienced housekeeper and doesn’t know where the money goes. Happy-go-lucky Jennie wants to marry a rich man, so that her married life can be filled with parties, gaiety and pretty things.

Aunt Hannah and Martha and John by Isabella Alden

Aunt Hannah’s fondest wish had been that her nephew John would marry a local girl and take over the family farm. Trouble was, John was never very interested in the farm and followed his own path, first to college and then to seminary. Now he was settling into his first pastorate and as anyone could see, his wife Mattie was simply not fit to be a housekeeper or a pastor’s wife in a country church. If only he had listened to his Aunt Hannah!

Mildred Keith by Martha Finley

Mildred Keith has a good life in Lansdale, Ohio – family, friends and school keep her happy and busy. But when her parents announce they’re all moving to Indiana, Mildred’s faith is tested beyond anything she could have imagined. Through good times and bad, follow Mildred and her family as they learn to rely on the Lord for strength in every circumstance!

Jill’s Red Bag by Amy Le Feuvre

Jack and Jill, along with their little sister “Bumps”, are two pickles. Their curious, wild ways are too much for their guardians. But when their older sister reluctantly employs a governess for them, their feet are turned toward the “Golden City.”

Carry On by Courtenay Burden

Is a library worth risking your life for?

What about a library that holds something you can’t afford to lose?

Nora Addison believes in books—believes in them enough to walk through a world war just to get to work every morning. But when physical exhaustion leads to the unthinkable, and Nora finds herself trapped in a rubble-filled gutter, the last person she’s prepared to answer to is the particular air warden who arrives to dig her out. [This is the first short story in a well-researched series. I love it!]

4. Sunshine

As the days cool off, I am so thankful for sunshine. Sunshine makes cold weather more bearable, plus it is a natural source of vitamin D.

5. Hot water

Hot water is something I often take for granted, but I am thankful for it because it makes dish washing and laundry tasks easier. Could you imagine having to heat up water to wash your hands or face every morning? Instead, we just turn on the hot water, yet many people around the world do not have that luxury.

What about you? For what are you thankful today? Please share in the comments.
