“You should go to the doctor and get a steroid shot,” said the lady who had called the office. I was answering the phone in an office, and every person who called had to endure my coughing and terrible-sounding voice, thanks to allergies.
A few concerns came to mind immediately when she said to get a steroid shot. First, my experience with the doctors I’d gone to was less than mediocre. According to my friend who was a lab tech, I was prescribed much too potent of medication for what I had. Second, the medication did not help the root cause. It just killed the pain and all the bacteria in my gut.
Third, steroids?! Why would I take steroids? Weren’t baseball players disqualified from certain awards because they were on steroids?
Ok, this is all this lady knew to, and she wanted to help me out of my ongoing misery.
Whether you are on Benadryl or considering different shots, I plead with you to read the possible side effects before you take anything like that long-term.
What can you do if you won’t take the above? I have a few suggestions for you!
Limit your intake of dairy.
Dairy causes inflammation, and inflammation makes your allergies worse. Instead of using cheese in your sandwiches, use avocado. If you have a health food store in your area, you may be able to find a high quality dressing that does not contain dairy. This dressing can be used in your salads as well as a replacement for mayonnaise.
Eliminate dust out of your home as much as possible.
If you have allergies, you want to make sure that your vacuum has an excellent filter. Vacuum your home at least once a week. If you have not yet spring cleaned your home, you will want to begin as soon as possible.
Go here to read more about the importance of spring cleaning. This article can also be helpful in getting to the source of your allergies.
In addition, if you are thinking about remodeling or updating your home anytime soon, consider flooring other than carpet. You will also want to get rid of blinds and replace them with curtains and/or pull down shades. Both carpet and blinds collect dust which in turn aggravates your allergies.
Boost your immunity.
When I suffered with allergies, I thought it was because my body did not agree with pollen or something else in the air. What I learned from reading, though, is that allergies are a reaction of your immune system. Therefore, if you have allergies, your immune system needs to be boosted. What I do in my work is begin with the gut health and the immunity takes care of itself from there.
